Several ministers said Sunday that the British government was not ready for a second referendum on withdrawal from Europe and insisted that Parliament might still approve changes to the withdrawal agreement reached by Prime Minister Teresa May.
Desperate to fail, Teresa May last week postponed parliamentary voting on her withdrawal agreement and tried to get some "guarantees" from the EU to help persuade skeptical members. Last week, the European Union said it was willing to help, but warned it would not renegotiate the withdrawal agreement.
The withdrawal from Europe in March next year will be the biggest change in British trade and foreign policy in more than 40 years, less than four months from that date. There are deep differences between Parliament and the whole nation on withdrawing from Europe, which proves that withdrawing from Europe will not go smoothly.
With Teresa May's withdrawal agreement blocked in Parliament and the European Union so far offering little help, more politicians are talking about the possibility of Britain's no agreement to withdraw from Europe or a second referendum. If a referendum is held again, it may prevent Britain from withdrawing from Europe.
Asked if the government was preparing for the referendum, Damian Hinds, the education minister, told Sky News, "No, the second referendum will cause division. We have organized a people's vote, we have conducted a referendum, and now we must continue to implement the results of the referendum. "
