The U.S. Treasury announced sanctions Monday on eight senior Iranian officials and mining companies in response to a missile attack on an Iraqi military base with U.S. troops, further reducing Iran's sources of funds.
The U.S. Treasury said in a statement on the same day that the eight senior Iranian officials under sanctions include Ali (223.83, 2.05, 0.92%) secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, shamhani, and Mohammad Lisa Ashtiani, deputy chief of staff of the Iranian armed forces. The sanctions also involved 17 Iranian metal producers and mining companies.
U.S. Treasury Secretary manuchin said at a White House press conference on the same day that the sanctioned senior officials are suspected of participating in the previous Iranian missile attack on the U.S. military base in Iraq. Imposing sanctions on Iran's metal mining industry and other industries will significantly reduce the funding source of the Iranian government.
According to the relevant regulations of the US side, the assets of the sanctioned object in the US will be frozen, and US citizens are not allowed to trade with them.
The White House said in a statement Thursday that President trump signed an executive order authorizing the Ministry of finance to sanction several Iranian economic sectors, including construction, mining, manufacturing and textile industries.
