"For the United Arab Emirates, this is a historic moment, and the United Arab Emirates has become the first country to operate nuclear power plants in the Arab region," Hamad kabi, a representative of the International Atomic Energy Agency, said at a press conference on the 17th.
The UAE news agency reported that Nava energy, which operates the plant, has obtained a 60-year reactor operating license.

Baraka nuclear power plant is located in the coastal area west of Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. Construction began in 2012, and it was scheduled to be put into operation by the end of 2017, with repeated delays. UAE regulators say the delay is to ensure that nuclear power plants meet safety and regulatory standards.
The Baraka nuclear power plant is constructed by a consortium led by the South Korean power commune, with a construction cost of 24.4 billion US dollars and a total of four reactors. When fully put into operation, the installed capacity will reach 5600 megawatts, which can meet one quarter of the electricity demand of the UAE.
The UAE government said in January that the plant will be operational in a few months. Kabi did not specify the specific time to start operation on the 17th, saying only that the nuclear power plant will be fully operated in the near future to help the UAE's economic development and energy sustainable development.
Saudi Arabia also has plans for nuclear power generation. It has said it will build up to 16 nuclear reactors, but has yet to put them into practice.
