Tesla Reduces High Price Model S and Model X

      Electric car maker Tesla (TSLA.O) said Wednesday that production hours for high-priced models Model S and Model X are decreasing. Just a few days ago, the company said it planned to cut thousands of jobs while increasing production of its key low-cost model 3.
The company's shares fell 3.8% Wednesday to close at $287.59.
With the company's tax credits phased out earlier this month, Tesla still faces a tough choice between risking customer loss or slashing the cost of each car by thousands of dollars.
Elon Musk, the company's chief executive, said earlier this month that Tesla would no longer accept orders for 75 kWh battery versions of Model S and Model X to simplify production.
"As a result of this adjustment and improved production line efficiency, we have reduced the production hours of Model S and Model X accordingly," a Tesla spokesman said in an e-mail.
"These adjustments and continuing improvements will enable us to increase production capacity when needed in the future."
The company said it would announce more details at a performance call scheduled for next Wednesday.
